This work was commissioned by the Louisville Visual Arts, aka the LVA.
The fence the work is hung on is a standard wire fence, and although it is almost as sturdy as a wall, it is also thin and perforated. This perforation allows both light and sound to flow from one side to the other freely. In this case, the sight im referring to is the LVA, and the sound is the music venue called the Portal.
The work decorates, aka embellishes, the fence; the design is printed on construction mesh. Mesh, as we know, is a very holey material; these holes prevent it from ripping and from catching the wind. To make things interesting and to turn the work into a bit of a riddle, I decided to switch out holey for holy. Turning a mesh, aka holey material, into holy material. This wordplay adds a bit of humour to the work.
To emphasize readability, I used red Helvetica Bold text. This choice of font and color will preserve legibility during most light and weather situations.
